Music review: 'Pani Thuli' and 'Merke Merke' make for pleasant listening. 'Koo Koovena' and 'Erimalai Naane' sound more like arguments between singers than songs. Very ordinary tunes and worse lyrics. In 'Pushing It Hard', Yuvan and Premji try to do bring hardcore rap to the Deccan, but fall woefully short. Which leaves us with the title song 'Kanda Naal Mudhalai'. I've always thought that mixing Carnatic music with Western elements would make for some great fusion, and Yuvan proves this beyond any doubt. Yeah, A.R.Rahman has already done it to some extent in Alai Payuthey, but this one is edgier, and has really raised the bar for the type of innovations that could be done with Carnatic music. I loved it, but we'll have to wait to see whether the people are ready to accept it. Did you like it? Let me know.

I didn't put Karthik's name first just because he was my school-mate. I was just being professional by listing them in alphabetical order :)

Going by the reviewer's comments I listened to only one song - kanda naal muthal. i liked it but I feel YSR has tried to do too much here. He could have kept the western part little more subtle. At time it seems little out of sync. but I think this song will defn grow on you as you listen to it more.

Hey Aruna, you are free to criticize my music as much as you want, but you better not say a word about Rathish. He is such a knowledgeable and unbiased writer, and its a privilege to have my music reviewed by him. Please mind your tongue in the future.

Hi Yuvan, glad to know that you read my blog. Don't mind Aruna. Those who know her well understand that she talks without thinking, and we have learned to accept her along with her shortcomings. She isn't always this rude, only when she says something. So ignore her, like the rest of the world does.
Keep visiting.- at 10:53 AM said...
O my god. Such a baby. i think if there is a blog association or something, they should have a rule that only adults are allowed to have blogs.

Hi Ice Queen, I think its fairly obvious that Yuvan Shankar's posting was fictional. The other ones are genuine though. I am not THAT jobless.
